How long will the “Energy Hub” run my home

This question is dependent on the power consumption of the household. If you take an average household, the DESS can theoretically provide enough power to get through the evening. Then the next day with the rising sun the DESS begins its charging cycle.

How large is the physical space required for the “All Energy HQ” Energy Hub?

The Energy Hub Hybrid requires roughly the space of a filing cabinet: Dimensions (L x W x H) 653 x 605 x 1415 mm.

Can I connect in to my existing solar PV system to the Energy Hub ?

Yes, every system can be integrated with a “All Energy HQ” Energy Hub. In some cases it may need to be checked if the module configuration matches the correct AC or DC input parameters depending if the system is being used on grid or off grid.

Can the device be setup outdoors?

No, the “All Energy HQ” Energy Hub Hybrid solar power storage system is not intended for outdoor use. It must be setup in a dry room indoors, e.g. in the garage or a store room.

Where can I see a Energy Hub system ?

What is the minimum Solar System required to be compatible with the Energy Hub?

An average solar system on a private house has a capacity of around 5 kilowatts. But a minimum of 4killowatts is suggested

Can the battery be charged from other energy sources?

Yes, charging of the lithium ion batteries in the “All Energy HQ” Energy Hub occurs via the connected photo-voltaic generator during sun hours or from the grid late evening or in the middle of the night if required.

Which data is shown during monitoring?

Generated PV energy, total consumption of the house, grid feed-in, grid draw off, self-consumption, temperature and irradiation . And a full set of parameters for setting charging information.

How is functionality ensured in grid-networked systems in the case of a power failure?

The storage system automatically supplies the household load when required. When the battery capacity is completely discharged it will seamlessly change over to the grid if the household load requires it. And then begin a charging cycle if the charging parameters are set to do so.

Is the “All Energy HQ” Energy Hub also available as a three-phase unit?

The Energy Hub comes in a single phase and a three-phase unit. You will require a three phase unit if your house is wired as three phase.

Which certificates does the Energy Hub have?

The Energy Hub storage system has SAA certification in Australia .

How does the installation of the system take place?

Installation must be done by an electrician who is CEC accredited.

How long can the batteries be stored without use?

The “All Energy HQ” Energy Hub may be idle for up to 6 months. We recommend regular monthly cycling.

Can the battery be charged from other energy sources?

The  “All Energy HQ” Energy Hub Hybrid can be charged from the solar PV system and from the grid should it be required.

Must the batteries be charged from the Solar Array?

The “ALL Energy HQ” Energy Hub System is connected to mains power. This means excess electricity during the daytime is exported out to the grid. The System relies on solar primarily during sun hours. Then in the middle of the night you may need to recharge the System just enough to get through to breakfast.(Sun up)  So the grid provides that option if required.

What is a charge cycle?

A charge cycle describes one charge and discharge per day. One charge and discharge per day constitutes a Charge Cycle.

Does it take very long for the batteries to recharge?

This depends on a number of factors. You must consider the size of the PV array, the daytime power demand and the weather. In good weather, the HQ Energy Hub can recharged in just a few hours.

Is my existing PV solar system compatible with the HQ Energy Hub storage system?

Yes, any pre-installed solar system is compatible with a HQ Energy Hub system.

Can I connect more than one HQ Energy Hub?

Yes, you can add additional battery cabinets to increase storage capacity simply. You only need one control unit.

Are thin-film modules compatible with the HQ Energy Hub?

Yes. Any panel or inverter combination can be connected to the HQ Energy Hub.

How is the HQ Energy Hub delivered?

The HQ Energy Hub comes on a pallet and weights 250kg. Your installer will have lifting equipment to lower it onto your concrete garage floor and it can be wheeled in to position ready for installation.

What is Solar PV?

PV stands for Photo-Voltaics and is a method of generating electrical power by converting solar radiation into direct current (DC) electricity using semiconductors that transfer electrons resulting in the buildup of voltage between two electrodes. Thus, generating a current that can be used to power your home. The direct current is then converted to alternating current (AC) by your inverter. The correct size inverter needs to be installed to maximise the light energy being received by the solar panels.

What is the Federal Government Scheme?

Currently in Australia, the Federal Government is helping people by providing access to system discounts at the Point of Purchase by way of STC’s (Small Scale Technology Certificates) formerly known as REC’s. There was the Solar Bonus Scheme at a state level within Queensland, which allowed you to gain a credit for excess power that you produced with your system. That system in Queensland is no longer available to new installation, however most retailers will offer a feed in tariff of between 6 and 12 cents.

How much discount will I get off my system for the STC’s?

The method used to calculate your discount is based around STC’s (Small-scale Technology Certificates). The amount of STC’s you can get varies on the size of your solar panel system and also your location. Ask us for more information!

What size system should I buy?

The size of your system is determined by a number of factors, these include but are not limited to the following:-

  • Available roof space
  • Your budget
  • Current power requirements
  • Return on investment requirements

How much power will my system generate?

This depends on your location, quality/size of your system and also the time of year. A estimated daily average can be provided upon request.

Can I add battery storage later?

Absolutely, All Energy HQ can retro-fit HQ Energy Hub battery storage system to your solar power system. This is a fantastic option, allowing you to have power even when the grid has failed. Perfect for those storm seasons.

Can I upgrade/increase my system?

Yes. As long as you plan for them. A larger capacity inverter may be required initially so more panels can be installed at a later date. Though keep in mind that the current maximum in Queensland is 5kW to maintain access to ‘Feed-in-Tariffs’.   Also, you can opt to upgrade your grid connect system to a energy storage system by adding batteries (HQ Energy Hub) and other components.

During power failure or blackout, will I still get power from my solar system?

In a standard grid connection, you will lose power if the grid loses power, therefore your solar panels will shut down.  This happens for safety reasons, to protect electrical workers undertaking repairs to the grid.

However, by using the HQ Energy Hub you can still have power from the stored energy in the batteries.  The system automatically isolates your home from the grid during grid failure periods.  This is extremely beneficial in circumstances where the loss of power may become a life threatening situation.

Is it effective in winter, cloudy weather or low light situations?

Solar PV works on Ultraviolet(UV), Infrared(IR) and White Light, not heat, as is commonly thought.  This means that in cool, cold or cloudy situations you will still be generating power.  In fact in winter, you will actually produce more power because lower ambient temperature will boost your system effectiveness.

How much roof space is required?

The amount of roof space required depends on the size of the system installed.  For example, a 1.5kW system requires about 12m² of roof space.  A roof inspection is recommended.

Which is the best direction to face my panels?

Panels are preferably placed on a north-facing part of the roof. However, the system can still be very effective in other locations. We can provide an analysis for your system taking into account the angle and direction of the panels for your individual situation.

What is the best angle to face my panels?

Anywhere between 12° – 40° is acceptable. In South East Queensland, the most optimal all year round is around 26°.

What if I have an asbestos roof?

Unfortunately, due to work place health and safety issues we are unable to assist with installation of solar on an asbestos roof.

How does a grid-tie system work?

A grid-tie electrical system is a system that generates electricity and is connected to the main power grid. These systems are typically based on renewable energy sources such as sun or wind.  Solar, or photovoltaic (PV), grid-tie systems convert sunlight into electric current.  Solar panels absorb photons of light from the sun, producing DC current electricity.  Another system component, the grid tie inverter, converts this DC current into AC current which can then either be used by electric “loads” in the home or it can be directed onto the main power grid for a credit toward your monthly electric utility usage.
